The Bluff Tones were created out of a group of middle age businessmen. Playing music was always important to them and that skill laid dormant for many years. Recently, they found each other and decided to reignite their love of music and the challenges it brings. In order to continue playing together and get better, they encourage one another to increase their already developed skills until reaching the next level.
Mark: Began playing guitar at age 12. Formed a band and played at the local roller rink for the Friday night sock hop at age 14 in the late 60’s. Switched to bass in the 70’s and played with several groups in the St. Louis area from the early 80’s to the mid 90’s. Moved to the Hermann Mo. area in 1998 and sat in with several area groups when needed. Got together with current Bluff-Tone members as a way to relax and play the music I love. Having a blast with these guys and really enjoy our recent success.
Steve – His earliest musical experience was limited to a few guitar lessons at about age 6 and having to play the Sousaphone in the grade school band. At 15, Steve asked a friend to show him a few chords for fun on camping trips, etc. But, it was immediately clear that the guitar was a magical form of expression that would become a lifelong passion – and challenge. The next 30 or so years included some classical instruction, a summer session at LA’s Guitar Institute of Technology and lots of “jamming” with friends and various other musicians.
Tim – I got started in music at an early age while singing in youth and adult choirs at church and then playing trumpet in school at about 12 ..!! I continued singing in the church choirs, local musical productions, and also playing in the school bands, local German bands and the Hermann City Band throughout my high school years. It was also during those years that I began playing bass guitar with a group of friends for fun and in the high school Jazz band. I was a founding member of a local rock band “Voyage” and continued to play with them throughout the 70’s and 80’s …!!
Greg – Played around for many years with the basic “cowboy chords” till a couple of friends taught him a few more and talked him into playing LIVE! What a change….
