Earlier this spring on April 14th, Hermann Missouri was proud to have a Spring Picket Marketplace. Sesquicentennial Park near downtown was filled with vendors excited to sell their vintage and antique treasures. In this same spirit, vendors from all around the Hermann area, including Rolla and Villa Ridge, are gathering again this Fall.
Vintage or Retro?
Reminiscent of the outdoor antique shows in Hermann during the 1980’s, the Marketplace event is a great way for the community of Hermann and surrounding areas to enjoy the coming cooler weather, spend time with the family looking through different antique styles and sampling homemade food items including ice cream.
The Fall Pumpkin Picket Marketplace isn’t just a show for antiques. Although there will be antique furniture and decorative items, vendors have a chance to showcase vintage memorabilia as well as some of their “Retro” treasures.
Help a Friend, Help a Charity
The idea was sprung from a desire to help a friend in need. A long time resident of Hermann was in need of getting rid of his old antiques in a local storage locker. Kathy Durham of Type Styles in Hermann, decided to help him in an unusual way. The Picket Marketplace was her vision and will be a reality this weekend on Sept. 14th.
Upon searching through the locker she found a unique treasure and had a great idea that inspired the whole community. Located inside storage were an abundance of old metal and wood school chairs. Kathy quickly contacted the community and asked for volunteers to purchase one or several chairs for $3 each. Once purchased, the participants would then decorate the chairs and donate them back to the Marketplace event. They will be auctioned during the event and all the proceeds will go toward the local Hermann Food Pantry.
The Hermann community looks forward to these types of events to help out each other. A quickly growing group in the Hermann area, Ferals in Peril will be at the event selling food and drinks to help raise money for their cause.
