“What do you think is beautiful?”
This is the question that the teachers asked their Summer School students recently. I was invited to view the results of that question in a magnificent display at the Elementary School Gymnasium.
When the teachers asked what the students thought was beautiful, they all had different answers. Perhaps it was a garden, or the side of a house; one student even thought trash was beautiful. Many of the students were able to see beauty from different perspective with their peers. What one person thinks is beautiful is important to them and maybe not to someone else.
All of the students gathered in the gymnasium to view the different works of art. Each child’s name was written on the picture so parents, students, and teachers alike could admire the vast array of beauty within Hermann Missouri.
Many thanks to the teachers who patiently walked with the children through the park, neighborhoods, alleys, and playgrounds. Berlener Pharmacy was gracious enough to donate all the photo paper from their printing machine at their store. Another thanks to Mike Langille of This is Hermann for showing some of his pictures of beautiful things and mayor Robert Koerber congratulated many of the children personally.
