The Farmer’s Market in Hermann Missouri is a great place to find fresh produce, home-baked goods, and delicious meats and poultry. Each vendor has a story to share. Be sure to stop and talk to them and find out a little bit about their stories. Some were born and raised in the area and some came to Hermann for a better quality of life.
Paul Houston is the owner of Houston’s Home Grown, a small family farm here in Hermann, MO. With an emphasis on sustainable agricultural methods, Paul’s mission is being kind to the soil, animals, and environment and reaping the benefits. Paul originally grew up on a farm so the farm life came natural to him. Before moving to Hermann he was an electronic technician in Minnesota.
Paul and his wife, Amy, moved to Hermann to be closer to her brother. Once they moved here, they took advantage of the better weather conditions and growing season in the Missouri area. They definitely take care of their resources too. Paul does not fee any antibiotics, drugs or hormones to the animals and gives them ample room to roam.
Some of the products that they provide to locals at Farmer’s Market as well as local stores and restaurants are:
- Chickens for meat and eggs
- Free-range turkeys
- Pastured heritage hogs (large black, red wattle, GOS, and berkshire crosses)
- Ducks (Muscovy)
- Rabbits (New Zealand & Californian)
- Lamb, occasionally
- Also fruits, vegetables, and flowers
