Visitors and residence in Hermann Missouri gathered together for some spectacular Fourth of July events throughout the day and had a great time. Patriotic Americans all over the country celebrated the Independence of our country for over 250 years and Hermann was proud to host its own Fourth of July events.
Many of the local businesses and wineries welcomed travelers to this small town. With it’s rolling hills, serene beauty, and award-winning wines, Hermann has no shortage of wonderful experiences and great people. Part of what makes the people so great is their commitment to local non-profits and community thinking. The Firecracker 5K was hosted this year by the Hermann Area District Hospital. All proceeds were donated to the Hermann Food Pantry. Although the entrance fee was 4 canned goods, there were still monetary donations which always help.

The morning was a beautiful temperature for the race. The air was crisp and the sun was just rising on Hermann as the race was about to start. There were a wide range of different kind of runners participating. Some runners pushed themselves to the limit, some jogged with their kids in strollers, and others leisurely enjoyed the surrounding beauty.
Later in the day, visitors to Hermann were invited to join in some of the festivities by Riverfront Park. Set beside the lazy Missouri river, vendors and booths were setup with food and other Fourth of July paraphernalia. The parking lot was half-closed to purveyors and many were setting up their sites and chairs for the fireworks later that evening.
Parade in the Streets of Hermann
One of the great Hermann traditions during the Fourth of July is the parade. Starting at the bottom of the hill next to the elementary school and continuing on till its conclusion at the water fountain at the Hermannhof winery, the parade consists of local businesses, organizations, and people of the town. Some of the entries include Stone Hill Winery, the Order of Eagles, and local churches like Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church. Kids, parents, and locals gather on the streets hoping to catch some of the candy that flies off the floats and rides. Waves abound and the smiles on the faces of the people make the experience of Hermann that much richer.
Later that evening the fireworks display was coming underway and several hours before, the Hermann City Band performed numerous patriotic songs at the Clara Eitmann Amphitheatre. The Riverfront Park started getting packed with spectators. All were waiting for the ensuing lights and sounds. Vendors were still busy selling food and the glow in the dark necklaces and sticks. Chairs lined the river’s banks and kids and adults alike anticipated what proved to be a magnificent show. At what seemed to be the end of the show, people started to leave and pack their cars but were pleasantly surprised at one last fireworks huzzah.

Hi, Lee,
I have a small group of folks who enjoy both 5 K runs and wine/beer. We are unable to attend a July 4 event but wondered if there are any other runs in your community during the summer? Thanks for your help.
