As 2014 comes to a close we reflect on the great events throughout the year in Hermann Missouri. Maifest and Oktoberfest are always a great time to see families and friends join in the celebration and relax in Hermann. Other festivals such as Wurstfest and BBQ and Brats give visitors a taste of what is popular in our area. One of our favorite events to close the year out includes the Say Cheese Wine Trail.
Adam Puchta
Caramelized Onion and Gorgonzola Cheese Pizza, paired with Brut Sparkling Wine
We are always pleasantly surprised by the recipes that Adam Puchta produces. With a thin crust and savory cheese, this dish was absolutely wonderful. Each bite paired with their Sparkling Wine left your mouth craving more.
Bias
Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes, paired with River Mist
Luckily for wine trail goers, Bias Winery prepared a feast for the eyes and the mouth. Their twice baked potatoes were fresh out of the oven and definitely satisfied our hunger. Not only was the half-size potato portion enough to fill, but the cheese, bacon, and chives enhanced the flavor so much more.
Dierberg Star Lane
Pecorino Romano and Black Pepper Polenta, paired with Syrah
The Dierberg staff always has a way to take a simple idea like pairing wine and cheese and making a gourmet experience. The hot Polenta certainly cut through the cold conditions that day. Each bite paired with the Syrah was perfect.
Hermannhof
Warm Goat Cheese Rarebit, paired with Vidal Blanc
Hermannhof is one of my favorite venues for the Wine Trail. In the cellar you are not only treated to the sites and smells of an authentic wine cellar, the cheese dish made the experience that much more enjoyable. The warm and toasted bread and the Goat Cheese Rarebit spread paired with the Vidal Blanc made the surroundings that much more enjoyable.
OakGlenn
Ham & Cheese Duo, paired with Vidal Blanc
The experience at OakGlenn was certainly a “charmer”. OakGlenn never fails to surprise us with some sort of take-away on the Wine Trail. This year each visitor was treated to a plate of ham and cheese, sausage, crackers, pickles and a delightful honey mustard dressing.
Röbller
Cheese Plate from Cool Cow Cheese Company, paired with Villa Rouge
At the outskirts of New Haven, Röbller Winery definitely makes their pairing an event to remember. One of my favorite parts of visiting Röbller is their attention to detail. When you first walk into the venue, you are greeted and asked to place your wine glass into a container where they wash each one and provide you with a new one. Today we were able to not only pair the wine with a selection of cheeses from Cool Cow Cheese, but also an assortment of chocolates, nuts and berries.
Stone Hill
Cheddar and Jalapeno Corn Muffin, paired with Golden Rhine
The view from Stone Hill is spectacular. The site of a warm cheddar corn muffin was also a pleasant treat. When paired with their Golden Rhine, you were able to sense all the different flavors separately and combined. The relish that accompanied both was a fantastic addition
Each winery has it’s own unique character. Whether you want something intimate, or grand with flair, or perhaps a secluded visit, the Wine Trail definitely gives you time to reflect on life and especially at this time of year, reflection is necessary. As 2014 winds down, each of us can see our successes and struggles throughout the year. Our hope at Experience Hermann is that when you want some time away from your daily routine, you’ll remember us. Hermann is a venue that can inspire all sorts of groups. If you are looking for an insider’s opinion and wanting to plan a vacation, please feel free to give us a call or let us know what you want your next visit to look like and we will serve you as best as we can.
