Hermannhof Winery’s ten magnificent stone cellars and charming brick superstructure are among the 100 early Hermann Missouri buildings placed on the National Register of Historic places by the Federal government. Martin Brothers Winery is 100% family owned and operated, located on the family farm in central Missouri outside of Hermann.
In 1997, OakGlenn Winery in Hermann Missouri was named for the majestic oak tree that marked the driveway in honor of the owner, Glenn. The oak tree died a natural death in 2006. It has been preserved and now proudly displays the hand carved OakGlenn name plate residing at the wine pavilion. Pinckney Bend was a navigational hazard well-known to generations Missouri River boatmen. Located at mile marker 83 above St. Louis, it is the site of a once-thriving town long since disappeared, and a stretch of river where at least five 19th century steamboats were wrecked, including the famous side-wheeler Spread Eagle. After more than a decade of searching for the ideal location to plant a vineyard and start a new winery, Jim and Mary Dierberg came across a former dude and cattle ranch in Santa Barbara County, California. “We immediately knew that we wanted this amazing ranch,” recalled Mary of driving through the gates on that fateful day in 1996. “It was absolutely breathtaking.”
